Control
Panel Feature Summary
Mail Manager
E-mail control panel allows instant creation of e-mail POP3, forwards,
and aliases.
Add/Remove
Accounts - This is where you create POP3 mailboxes for
your domain.
- A
POP3 account is a stand alone incoming e-mail account. If you
created:
username:
bob
password: 1aabob
then all mail sent to bob@yourdomain.com will be routed to the
bob e-mail account. The user bob can then check this mail by using
his email client, or
by using the webmail feature.
- Note:
Once you have set up a mailbox, you may have the control panel
automatically configure Outlook Express with the new account for
you. OR, you may configure any other POP email client to check
your mail using the following settings:
(This example assumes your domain name is: yourdomain.com and
the user name was bob as above)
incoming (POP) mail server: mail.yourdomain.com
outgoing (SMTP) mail server: mail.yourdomain.com
,(or
you may use your ISP's outgoing mailserver as well, see your ISP's
help section for this address.)
username: bob@yourdomain.com
password: 1aabob (the password used when
you set up the mailbox)
-
- Default
Email Address - This feature is automatically configured
when your account is set up. A default email address is a catch-all
address which will direct any mail to your domain without a valid
address to another mailbox. For example, if someone sends an email
to bob@yourdomain.com and you do not have a mailbox for bob, then
the message will go to the set default mailbox.
AutoResponders
- An autoresponder is an automatic email generated to a sender
when a certain email address receives mail.
Filters
- You
can have the server deny mail from anyone, or with any subject.
-
E-Mail
Forwarders - A forward account sends mail sent to user@domain.com
to an address completely out of your domain. For example if
john had an AOl account and wanted to check all his mail there
you could setup john to forward to john3435xs@aol.com. You may
also set up a forwarder within your domain. For example, if
you want mail for bobsmith@yourdomain.com to go to bob@yourdomain.com.
Mail Lists - Set up a list to send emails to a
large group of subscribers. This tool has many configurations,
from a newsletter or more. You can set who can subscribe, and
how... who can post to your list and more.
Note: we do not allow unsolicited email (SPAM) on our server,
please make sure your list subscribers know they are going to
get emails from your list so they do not complain to us.
WebMail
Login
Another way to log in and read your email anytime with the
web based email tool. To access webmail go to http://yourdomain.com/webmail
FTP
Manager
Accounts Used for managing access accounts to your web space.
The creation of an FTP account will allow users to log into a
sub directory from your main account without gaining access to
your main accounts. Sessions show any users that are currently
logged into your domain. Settings allow you to modify access to
your anonymous FTP site.
- Note:
for any added FTP accounts, you must use the following format
for the FTP usernames:
- Example
User is: bob
Example domain is: domain.com
- Then
bob would log in to FTP using: bob@domain.com as his username
This only applies to the additional FTP users you may add in the
control panel.
Password
Changes
This changes the passwords for your account, please make sure you
close all existing windows that you have open for the Control panel.
Note: does not affect the billing system password or the password
of individual mailboxes.
File
Manager
Allows you to modify the files in your website in real-time via
a web based interface. You can perform many commands such as chmod
as well as actually edit the file and save it directly to the
web server.
* There is also a built in web page editor ( editor only works
with IE 6.x or above)
Custom
Error Pages
This section lets you customize the errors that your users will
see instead of the generic server errors. You could setup a 404
page to redirect users to your main web site instead of the default
dead document.
SSH
The control panel has a built in SSH (Telnet) client that allows
you to log into your account and test perl scripts and perform other
functions.
Note: the SSH client will not work with your IP, your domain
must be pointing to the server and you must be logged into the control
panel with your domain
Web
Page Protection (Protect Directory)
Web page protection is used to limit access to any directory to
users who enter a user/pass combo.
Click on that dir.
Enter a user / pass for access
Click add.
You can add as many users as you wish to this file. This protection
is for resources accessed via the WEB only, this will not create
an FTP user.
MySQL
Database
This is where you set up and manage your MySQL databases.
Raw
Access Logs
A log file is a record of all transfers that were requested
by visitors to your site. Each page, graphic, Java program etc.
is counted as an "access". Knowing this, you can see
that just one page can contain many different accesses. This makes
it very difficult to read a "raw" log file unless you
know what you're looking at. Raw access logs are simply traffic
log files that come directly from the server and have not been
processed with any web site statistics software available on our
server. You are welcome to download these files if you want to
run them against your own web site statistics software.
To
download your Raw Access Logs, click on the Raw Access Logs button
in your control panel. Your computer will prompt you to download
the file. Once it has finished downloading, unzip the file using
any compression software such as Winzip for Windows and Stuffit
Expander for Mac. You should be able to see all the logs in your
computer's directory.
Web/FTP
Access Stats
Provides access to many different programs that will analyze your
access logs and show you more information about your web sites
traffic.
- Error
Logs
This will show any errors, such as files, images, pages not loading,
missing files. You may find any errors in your html or cgi scripts
as well.
Site
Ranking
This tool allows you to check your sites listing on various
search engines.
Search Engine Submit
A handy tool that will help you submit your site to some of
the most popular search engines.
CGI
We have numerous customizable cgi scripts that have been pre-installed
on the server for you to use with your own account. The only thing
you'll need to do is select the script you are interested in using,
select the colors, style etc., and click the "Make HTML"
button. You can then paste the HTML output into any of your HTML
files to use that system cgi program.
- Cron
Jobs
Some
programs require you to install a cron job on the server. The
control panel automates this installation so you do not need to
ask support to install it for you.
Network
Tools
A few helpful tools like dns lookup and traceroute.
- Mime
Types
A MIME type is basically what tells the web server that a .html
document is a web page, and that a .gif doc is a gif image etc.
If you would like to configure a custom MIME type such as making
.pictures a gif image file you would enter it here.
Apache
Handlers
A "handler" is an internal Apache representation of the
action to be performed when a file is called. Generally, files have
implicit handlers, based on the file type. Normally, all files are
simply served by the server, but certain file types are "handled"
separately.
Todays Backup
A very handy tool will allow you to download a backup of your site.
Although we have backups on site here, it is ALWAYS a good idea
to keep a recent backup of your site locally on your computer as
well in case there is a problem, or you delete a file accidentally.

use both domains for web and email.

as your main domain.
